Dennis J. Fitzgerald, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday November 25, 2016 at his residence. He was 93 years old. He was born on November 6, 1923 to James and Anastasia Daley Fitzgerald in Yonkers where he was raised and educated, graduating from Gorton High School. He then attended Northwestern University and City College of N.Y. Mr. Fitzgerald was a salesman for Shaefer and Heineken Beers. He was previously employed by the U.S. Postal Service and Chase Manhattan Bank. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942...

Dennis J. Fitzgerald, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday November 25, 2016 at his residence. He was 93 years old. He was born on November 6, 1923 to James and Anastasia Daley Fitzgerald in Yonkers where he was raised and educated, graduating from Gorton High School. He then attended Northwestern University and City College of N.Y. Mr. Fitzgerald was a salesman for Shaefer and Heineken Beers. He was previously employed by the U.S. Postal Service and Chase Manhattan Bank. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was a Fireman First Class and served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of VFW Post 1666, the Charles Bajart American Legion Post, the Scarsdale Elks, Knights of Columbus, the Lud Dale Association , President Jo Jacs Social Club, the Catholic Slovak Club and the Destroyer Escort Roy O. Hale Association. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. On June 10, 1950, he married his loving wife, Mary Ann Meltz in Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Fitzgerald died on October 9, 2016. He is survived by a daughter, Denise Podell and her husband, Jay, four nephews, Thomas Kiernan and Thomas, Richard and Edward Meltz and two nieces, Anastasia Hawkins and Ellen Russell. He was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Fitzgerald and two sisters, Mary Kiernan and Helen Russell. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Monday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday November 29th at 9:30am. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
